Fed: Green energy boost means higher bills

Households will pay more for electricity after a decision to exempt big business from
paying for renewable energy.

State and federal governments have signed off on a plan to have 20 per cent of electricity
come from renewable sources by 2020.

The Renewable Energy Target is a major climate change policy which has flown under the radar.

Power bills will grow by more than a billion dollars a year to pay for the changes
.. and governments have decided that some industries will be largely exempted from paying.

Australian Conservation Foundation climate campaigner PHIL FREEMAN says he's disappointed
about what he says is a free ride for the big polluters.
