Fed: Antibiotic may cause severe reaction, says doctor

BRISBANE, Feb 5 AAP - A drug commonly used to treat urinary tract infections may cause
a severe allergic reaction or even death, a doctor said today.

Brisbane surgical trainee Dr Indra Nordstrand said there was not enough information
available to doctors in Australia who prescribed the antibiotic drug trimethoprim.

Her findings were published in this month's Journal of Emergency Medicine Australasia.
