SA: Australia to provide further $500,000 aid in Turkey

Australia is paying for 1,000 tents, 500 mobile toilets and thirty 10,000-litre water tanks
being sent in earthquake relief to Turkey.

Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER says Australia will keep in touch with Turkish
authorities to see if there's more it can do.

Earlier, Canberra gave $1 million in cash to the relief effort -- and field kitchen
supplies, medical kits and blankets have been sent via the International Red Cross, the United
Nations and Red Crescent.

Mr DOWNER's sent an officer of Australia's international development agency, AUSAID, to
Turkey and to assess if there are other practical ways Australia can help.

He's also appealed for individuals wanting to help to give cash instead of goods because
it's easier to purchase goods closer to Turkey than to transport them from Australia.
